    It doesn't matter where you purchase the phone, if you have a smartphone you must carry a data package. It sucks but that is just how it works. the only way you can get out of the data package requirement is to get one of the cheapy phones like what you already have. Also if you want to use the GPS feature it has to have internet access as that is where it pulls your maps from.

    I have a Verizon contract and am using an old Nokia 6255i. I would like to get a phone with GPS, and more memory, but Verizon says if I get a smart phone like the iPhone or Droid, I will have to pay an additional $30.00 per month for data use. I don't want a data package and don't want or need internet access. I would like to buy it on eBay or some private party; not from Verizon.

    I must keep the Verizon contract as I have wife and 2 granddaughters on same contract.

    Surely there is something I can get and use without their data package. What do you suggest?
