Changing the Ringtones and Sounds

1. Go to the Start screen and swipe your finger right to go to Apps.
2. Tap Settings -> ringtones + sounds -> tap ringtone -> select the ringtone that you want to set up.
3. Then tap on a phone event if you want to change its notification tone. For example, change the notification tone for for new voicemail.
4. Select the ringtone that you want to assign.
5. Go to Play a sound for and make the desired changes.
6. If you want to enable or disable the sounds of an event, tap that particular event.

Changing the Color of the Start Screen

1. Go to the Start screen and swipe your finger right to go to Apps.
2. Tap Settings -> tap theme -> tap Background -> select the background shade that you want to use.
3. Tap Accent color -> select the desired accent color (light or dark).
4. When finished, press the Back key if you want to return to the Start screen to see the changes you’ve made.

Personalizing the Lock Screen

1. Go to the Start screen and swipe your finger right to go to Apps.
2. Tap Settings -> tap theme -> tap Background -> select the lock screen background option that you want to use.
3. Then tap choose an app to show detailed status. For example, you choose to see detailed Calendar entries, a photo, missed calls or the first line of a message.
4. Select the desired app.
5. If you want to add another app that will show status updates on your Lock screen, tap the plus sign (+) located under Choose apps to show quick status.
6. Select the desired app.
7. Tap Screen times out after, if you want to set a new screen timeout -> select after how much time you want your screen to timeout (30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes or 5 minutes).

Pinning a Tile

Pinning a tile is very useful if you want to have quick access to your most used apps.

1. Go to the Start screen and swipe your finger right to go to Apps.
2. Tap and hold the app that you wish to pin to the Start screen and then tap pin to start.

Unpinning a Tile

1. Tap and hold the desired tile and then tap the unpin icon.

Resizing a Tile

1. Tap and hold the app that you want to resize.
2. Tap the arrow icon located at the bottom right corner of the app if you want to make the tile smaller.
3. If you want to make the tile larger again, tap the arrow icon once more.
4. To save the changes, tap the tile itself.

Moving a Tile

1. Tap and hold the tile that you want to move.
2. Then tap and drag the desired tile to the location on the screen where you want to move it. Make use of this option to customize the Nokia Lumia 822 to better suit your needs.
3. To save the changes, tap the tile itself.
