Does this happen when you use an earphone or just the phone speaker? Try the hard reset and see if it helps. If not try this:

Go to Settings > General > About then go to the bottom where it says Diagnostics & Usage, then click on Diagnostic & Usage Data. Check to see if there are are any entries in there that says "PANIC.PLIST." If there is then your iPhone has a hardware issue and will need to be replaced/fixed.

Agree with tavenger5, check the buttons for some sticking issues..

This is for an iPhone 4?

Is one of the volume buttons sticking, or did it get some liquid in there?

I have used my phone for more than half a year without any problems. But recently my phone volume turns up by itself when I listen to the music.I turn it down, then it turns up by itself. This kind of case happens again and again. So anyone knows what's wrong with my phone? Thanks in advance.
