Is your Samsung Galaxy S4 not performing as well as it should? Then a master reset might be a solution, but keep in mind that this type of reset should be used only as a last resort, after all other troubleshooting steps have been taken. Or are you planning to give it to another person? The it's best to completely reset your device before you do that.

Also, by resetting your smartphone, all the date stored on it, including 3rd party apps will be lost, so it’s highly recommended to back up all your information prior to performing a master reset.

Master Resetting Your Samsung Galaxy S4 via Software

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Then go to Settings -> tap the Accounts tab -> touch Backup and reset -> select the desired Back up and restore options -> then tap Factory data reset.
    3. Now read the warning you see on the screen and tap Reset device.
    4. Tap Delete all – this will delete all your personal information and downloaded apps stored on your smartphone.
    5. Your Samsung Galaxy S4 will then reset and restart.

Master Resetting Your Samsung Galaxy S4 via Hardware

If your Samsung Galaxy S4 is so unresponsive that you can’t perform a master reset via software, don’t worry because we have another solution for you: resetting your handset via its hardware buttons.

Similar to a factory reset via software, this type of reset will wipe all your data and personal information, so it’s very important to back up your files, contacts and any other date you’d like to save. When ready, follow the steps of this tutorial:

    1. Turn off your SGS4. To turn off your device completely, it’s best to remove and then reinsert its battery.
    2. Press and hold the Volume Up button -> then press and hold the Home key.
    3. Keep these two buttons pressed simultaneously and then press and hold the Power key and keep all three buttons pressed until you see the Recovering Booting message appear at the top left corner of the screen and the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo.
    4. Scroll to wipe data/factory reset by pressing the Volume Down button.
    5. When wipe data/factory reset is highlighted, press the Power key.
    6. Use the Volume Down key to scroll to Yes—delete all user data and then press the Power key.
    7. When the wipe is complete, press the Power key to select reboot system now.
    8. The master reset via hardware is now complete.
    9. Your SGS4 will restart
