    Managing Internal Memory (RAM)

Tips & Tricks to Reducing Memory Use:

    Removing Widgets:

(Keep in mind that animated widgets or widgets that update information regularly are the ones that use the most amount of RAM):

    1. Navigate to the home screen containing the widget
    2. Tap and hold the widget that you wish to remove
    3. Drag the widget and release it on top of the "Trash can" icon

    Replacing a Live Wallpaper:

    1. While on the home screen, tap and hold an empty space on the screen
    2. Select "Wallpapers"
    3. Choose one of the following:

      • Use an Xperia Wallpaper:

        1. Select the row of previews and then slide left to browse more wallpaper options
        2. Select the wallpaper that you wish to use

      • Use a Custom Wallpaper:

        1. Tap "Album"
        2. Browse through your pictures and select the one that you wish to use
        3. Tap and hold on the crop box and then move it in the desired position. Touch an edge of the crop box and drag it in a different direction to adjust the crop size
        4. Tap "Crop"

    Removing Unused Home Screen Panes:

    1. While on the home screen, tap and hold an empty space
    2. Touch the screen and the swipe left or right to view the pane that you wish to remove
    3. Tap the "Close" icon located in the top-right corner of the preview
    4. Press "Delete" to confirm

    Managing Applications:

    Keep Your Applications Updated:

    1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen
    2. Go to the "Play Store"
    3. Press the "Menu" icon
    4. Tap "My apps" and update all your applications, or specific apps one by one

Researching and Monitoring Newly Installed Applications:

It's always a good idea to read the reviews about an application before installing one, in order to see whether or not other users have experienced any issues. If an application causes certain issues, it's a good thing to consider removing / uninstalling it.

    Using the Task Manager:

    1. Press the "Task manager" key
    2. To open a recently used application, tap the thumbnail associated with that app
    3. To close a recently opened application, tap the thumbnail and then slide it to the right

Viewing the Amount of Free Internal Memory (RAM):

    1. While on the home screen, press the "Applications" icon
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Under "Device" tap "Apps"
    4. Swipe the screen left or right to access the "Running" screen. The "Free" value is located in the lower-right corner

    Managing Internal Storage (ROM)

Viewing the Amount of Free Internal Storage:

    1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen
    2. Select "Settings"
    3. Tap "Storage" under "Device"
    4. The amount of free storage is shown under "Internal Storage"

Adjusting Memory Storage Settings (Changing the Gmail Sync Settings to Prevent Internal Storage to Quickly Filling Up):

    1. While on the home screen, tap the "Applications" icon
    2. Scroll to and select "Gmail"
    3. Press the "Menu" icon located in the bottom-right corner of the display
    4. Select "Settings"
    5. Select your email address
    6. Tap "Days of mail to sync" located under "Data Usage"
    7. Enter "3" or any desired value
    8. Press "OK" to confirm

    Managing Applications:

In case you're experiencing issues after installing an app that uses a large amount of ROM, then you can uninstall it by following the steps below:

    1. Tap the "Applications" icon located on the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Tap "Apps" located under "Device"
    4. Optionally, you can tap the screen and slide right or left to access the "All" or "Downloaded" screens
    5. If you wish to sort your apps from the largest to smallest, press the "Menu" icon and the select "Sort by size"
    6. Select the application that you wish to remove
    7. Tap "Uninstall" and confirm by pressing "OK"

Remember to Clear Your Device's Storage Regularly:

Your smartphone needs at least 150 MB of free ROM in order to work properly. The Android system can't work as intended if your device has less than 150 MB of free space, so in order to keep your handset's ROM in check, you may want to regularly perform the following tasks:

    • Delete unnecessary SMS and MMS
    • Clear the browser's cache, history and cookies
    • Clear the Facebook app cache
    • Transfer pictures and media to your PC and then remove them from your phone's memory
    • Clear the call logs
