The HTC Desire 816 has started hitting the Chines market in waves, and the smartphone is already a huge success, as the Taiwanese manufacturer managed to sell 50,000 units in only 10 minutes. If you happen to own a Desire 816, or you're planning on buying one, then here's how you can transfer your iPhone contacts over to the Android device.

    Using iTunes:

iTunes allows you to sync your iPhone contacts with your Google account. For this method, you need a computer with iTunes installed and access to the Internet.

    1. Launch iTunes on the computer
    2. Establish a connection between your iPhone and computer via USB
    3. Once it connects, the iPhone will appear in iTunes. Click it to access the summary page
    4. Go to the "Info" tab and mark the "Sync Contacts With" check box
    5. From the drop-down list, select "Google Contacts"
    6. Register your Google account if you haven't done so before. Otherwise, you can click "Configure" and select a previously added account
    7. Click "Apply" to begin the syncing process
    8. Once complete, register the same account used in iTunes, on the Desire 816, and allow Google to sync contacts with your android device. (NOTE: to add an account, go to "Settings" > "Accounts")

    Using iCloud:

As long as you've enabled the iCloud service on your iPhone before, your contacts should already be backed up on your iCloud account. The contacts can be exported as a vCard file, and for this method you only need access to a computer with Internet.

    1. Use your computer's Internet browser to visit https://www.icloud.com/
    2. Sign in with your iCloud account and click "Contacts"
    3. From the list, select the contacts that you want to export
    4. Click the button depicting a cog wheel, located in the lower-left side
    5. Select "Export vCard" and a VCF file will be downloaded on your computer
    6. Once downloaded, import the file to "Google Contacts". As an alternative, you can connect your Desire 816 to your computer via USB, and copy the vCard file to the "sdcard" directory. Then, open the "People" application, tap "menu" > "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts" > "Import from storage" > "Import from SD". If necessary, follow any additional self-explanatory steps

Using the "My Contacts Backup" Application:

Both the iTunes and iCloud methods require you to have access to a computer. However, you can transfer contacts without a PC, and instead by using applications. My Contacts Backup is an iOS app that is designed to back up and share contacts via email.

    1. On the iPhone, visit the App Store and install "My Contacts Backup"
    2. Launch the application and tap "Backup"
    3. After the backup is created, tap "Email" to attach the VCF file to a new email
    4. Enter your own Gmail address as the recipient and tap "Send"
    5. On the HTC Desire 816, open the email containing the file, and download it in order to import its contents through the "People" application

    Using the "Send Anywhere" Application:

If you're looking for a different app that can transfer contacts and other file types through a P2P connection, then "Send Anywhere" might be what you're looking for.

    1. On the iPhone, download "Send Anywhere" from the App Store
    2. Visit the Play Store and download the same app on your Desire 816
    3. Open the application on both smartphones
    4. Switch to the iPhone and tap "Send" > "Contacts"
    5. Select the contacts that you wish to share, and tap "Send"
    6. Lastly, choose the desired transfer method. Tapping "Generate QR Code" will allow you to commence the transfer by scanning the code with the Desire 816. You can also tap "Receive" on the HTC device, and enter the randomly generated transfer code from the iPhone
