    Backing Up Data

    Backing Up Applications:

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing a home screen
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Go to "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you are required to be logged in to your Google account. To add an account, tap "HTC account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
    4. If necessary, mark the "Backup my data" and "Backup account" check boxes

    Backing Up Contacts:

    1. Launch the "People" application
    2. Go to the "People" tab
    3. Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Manage contacts"
    4. Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to phone storage"
    5. Select an account if required and tap "OK"

    Backing Up Media Files using a Windows Computer or Mac:

    1. Connect the HTC One E8 to your computer via USB
    2. If you're running on a Windows computer, an AutoPlay window should pop-up. From there, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer". (NOTE: if you're using a Mac, the One E8 virtual drive icon will appear on the desktop)
    3. Navigate to your phone's storage and locate the files that you wish to back up
    4. Copy the files, and navigate to the desired backup location on your computer's hard drive
    5. Past the files on your PC's HDD
    6. Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray, and click "Eject". NOTE: If you're using a Mac, drag the One E8 virtual drive icon in the "Trash / Eject" bin
    7. You can now safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer

    Restoring Data

    Restoring Applications:

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Access "Accounts & sync"
    4. Press "Menu" and tap "Sync all"

    Restoring Contacts from Storage:

    1. Open the "People" application and go to the "People" tab
    2. Press the "Menu" icon and tap "Manage contacts"
    3. Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Import from phone storage"
    4. Select the type of account you wish to use for restoring your contacts

    Restoring Media Files from a Windows or Mac Computer:

    1. Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your smartphone and computer
    2. From the AutoPlay window that should appear if you're using a Windows computer, click "open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
    3. If you're using a Mac, double-click the virtual drive icon associated with the HTC One E8, located on the desktop
    4. Navigate to where the media files have been backed up on the computer
    5. Copy the files, and transfer them on your phone's storage
    6. After the transfer is done, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray, followed by "Eject". On a Mac computer, drag the virtual drive icon on top of the "Trash / Eject" icon
    7. It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from your computer
