Clearing an App's Cache or Data:

NOTE: By clearing an application's cache you can solve various issues that you may experience with the app, including crashes, freezes etc. If clearing the cache won't solve these issues, you can try to clear the application's data as well.

WARNING! Unlike clearing an app's cache, clearing an application's data will result in the deletion of all personal data stored within the app, including settings, login information, credit card information, saved games etc. To clear an app's cache / data:

    1. From the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
    2. Tap "Settings"
    3. Scroll to "Phone" and tap "Apps"
    4. Access the "All" tab
    5. Select the desired app and tap "Clear cache"
    6. If clearing the app's cache hasn't helped, tap "Clear data" > "OK"

    Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your smartphone is not working properly and it freezes, crashes or you're experiencing drops in performance, then you may have to try and fix these problems by clearing the phone's cache partition. To do so:

    1. Turn off your smartphone
    2. Press and hold the "Volume Down" key
    3. With the volume key pressed, press and release the "Power" button
    4. Keep pressing "Volume Down" until three Android mascots pop-up at the bottom of the screen
    5. You should now see the "HBOOT" menu. At this point, all hardware keys should be released
    6. Press the "Volume down" button to navigate to "Recovery"
    7. Press "Power" to enter recovery mode
    8. A red triangle should appear on the screen. At this point, press the "Volume Up" and "Power" keys at the same time
    9. You should now see the recovery menu. From there, navigate to "Wipe cache partition" using the "Volume down" key
    10. Press "Power" to start wiping the cache partition
    11. Once the phone completes the process, it will automatically highlight "Reboot system now"
    12. Press the "Power" key to select the option and reboot your smartphone in normal mode

NOTE: Normally a cache wipe should fix most software issues with a smartphone, reason why it's always recommended to apply a cache wipe before going forward to factory resetting your handset. However, if clearing the cache fails, you can visit this link for a full guide on how you can reset the HTC One E8.

    Safe Mode

NOTE: a smartphone's safe mode can be very helpful, as this mode does not come with third party support. This allows you to reboot your device and uninstall malicious third party apps that would otherwise block you from uninstalling them while running. To enable safe mode:

    1. With the smartphone turned on, press and hold the "Power" button
    2. Tap and hold the "Power off" option from the pop-up menu
    3. At the "Reboot to safe mode" message, tap "Restart" to confirm
    4. Your smartphone should now reboot in safe mode, and a "Safe Mode" sticker should be present in the bottom-left corner of the display

Uninstalling an App in Safe Mode:

    1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
    2. Go to "Settings"
    3. Under "Phone" tap "Apps"
    4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" section and select the desired app
    5. Tap "Uninstall" > "OK"
    6. Once the application has been removed, press and hold the "Power" key to exit safe mode
    7. Then, tap the "Restart" option in the pop-up
    8. Wait for your smartphone to reboot in normal mode, and the app should no longer cause any issues
