    Backing Up Applications:

    1. Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing the home screen
    2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "User and Backup"
    3. Tap "Backup and reset"
    4. Sign in with your Google account if necessary. To do so, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps to log in with, or create a new account
    5. If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

    Contact Backup

    Backing Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:

    1. Launch the "Contacts" application
    2. Press "Menu" and tap "Settings"
    3. Tap "Merge accounts" and select "Google" or "Samsung account"
    4. Tap "OK" and your device will merge the contacts with your account

    Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:

    1. Tap "Apps" from any of the home screens
    2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
    3. Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
    4. Touch "Import / Export" and tap "Export to SD card"
    5. Make sure you remember the backup file's name before tapping "OK"


    Media File Backup

    Backing Up Media Files Using Your Smartphone:

    1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
    2. Launch "My Files"
    3. Swipe to "Local storage" and tap "Device storage"
    4. Press "Menu" and tap "Select"
    5. Locate the files containing the desired media files. Usually, pictures captured with the camera are found in the "DCIM" folder, while other media files can be stored in "Downloads", "Notifications" etc
    6. Mark the check boxes next to the files / folders you wish to back up
    7. When ready, tap "Menu" > "Copy" > "SD card"
    8. Navigate to the directory where the files should be transferred
    9. Tap "Paste here"

    Backing Up Media Files Using a Windows PC:

    1. Establish a connection between your Galaxy Avant and computer via USB
    2. On the smartphone, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
    3. If necessary, mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
    4. From the AutoPlay window on your PC, click "Open device to view files"
    5. Locate the desired media files stored on the smartphone
    6. Copy the desired files, and paste them in the desired backup location on your PC
    7. After the process is done, safely disconnect your device by clicking the "media storage" icon located in the system tray

    Backing Up Media Files Using a Mac Computer:

    NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

    1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
    2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on the Mac
    3. Next, connect the smartphone to your Mac via USB
    4. From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down
    5. Tap "Connected as a media device" and if necessary, mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
    6. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / restore" tab
    7. Click the "Backup" tab and mark the check box next to "Music" and "Photo". Alternatively, mark the "Select all items" check box
    8. Click "Backup" and once the process is complete, you can safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac
