Back Up App Data:

1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
2. Open the “Settings” menu
3. Scroll to “User and Backup” and tap “Backup and reset”
4. If necessary, register your Google account. Tap “Backup account” > “Add account”
5. If required, enable “Backup my data” and “Backup account”

Back Up Contacts on the SD Card:

1. Make sure the SD card is installed on the phone
2. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
3. Launch “Settings”
4. Under “Applications”, tap “Contacts”
5. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “Contacts to display” and switch to “All contacts”
6. Tap “Import / Export” > “Export to SD card”
7. Tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Contacts Using a Samsung or Google Account:

1. Launch “Contacts”
2. Tap “Menu” > “Merge accounts”
3. Select “Samsung account” or “Google”
4. Tap “OK” to allow the contacts on your phone to be synced with the selected account

Back Up Media Files

On the SD Card:

1. Open the apps drawer
2. Launch “My Files”
3. Swipe to “Local storage” and tap “Device storage”
4. Tap “Menu” > “Select”
5. Locate and select the desired media files
6. Tap “Menu” > “Copy” > “SD card”
7. Go to the desired backup folder on the phone and tap “Paste here”

On a Windows Computer:

1. Connect the Galaxy A9 to your PC via USB
2. Swipe the “Notification” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)” if necessary
3. Open the File Explorer on the PC
4. Locate the media files on your phone
5. Copy the desired files, and transfer them on your PC as backups
6. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage from the system tray, and disconnect the device from the USB cord

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: In case Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

1. Open the Internet browser on your Mac
2. Visit Kies Support
3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies on the Mac
4. Connect the Galaxy A9 to your Mac via USB
5. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down and make sure “Media device (MTP)" is enabled
6. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
7. Click “Backup” and check the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music”, and other media file types you want to back up
8. Click “Backup”
9. After the backup is complete, drag the phone virtual drive from the desktop and drop it inside the “Trash Can”. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
