    WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data stored on the internal memory will be deleted, including downloaded content, media files, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

    NOTE: Before you reset the phone, you can visit this thread to learn how you can back up data on the Galaxy J2, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings” and swipe to “Personal
    3. Tap “Backup and reset
    4. Optionally, enable / disable “Back up my data” and “Restore
    5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device
    6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the current password / PIN / pattern etc
    7. Tap “Continue
    8. Tap “Delete all” to confirm

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

    NOTE: In case you are unable to factory reset the phone via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device via Recovery. The recovery menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses. To do this:

    1. Turn off the phone
    2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
    3. Press and hold “Power
    4. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power
    5. When the Android log appears, release all hardware keys
    6. Once in the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
    7. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    8. Use the volume key to highlight “Yes – delete all user data
    9. Press “Power
    10. When prompted to “Reboot system now”, press “Power

    Check for new Updates:

    NOTE: After completing the factory reset, it’s recommended to check if new updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings
    3. Swipe to “System” and tap “About device
    4. Check of a new OS version is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
