WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all the personal data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes downloaded content, media files, ringtones, apps, contacts etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. However, if you want to back up data from the internal memory you can visit this thread for instructions. For a guide on how to restore data on the HTC 10, visit this thread.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings
    3. Scroll to “Personal
    4. Tap “Backup & reset” and enable or disable “Backup my data” and “Automatic restore
    5. Tap “Reset phone
    6. If your phone is protected by a screen lock, you will need to enter your PIN / password to proceed
    7. Optionally, enable “Erase SD card” too. WARNING, by enabling this all data on the external memory will be deleted during the reset
    8. Review the “Warning” message and tap “OK” to confirm

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

    1. First, make sure the phone is turned off
    2. Press and hold “Volume Down
    3. Press and hold “Power” until the phone vibrates, then release the key
    4. When you gain access to the “hTC download mode” screen, release “Volume Down
    5. From the said menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”, then press “Power
    8. Next, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset
    9. Press “Power
    10. Navigate to and highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” once more to confirm and reset your phone
    11. After the reset is done, make sure “reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power” to restart your device

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Go to “Settings
    3. Scroll down to and tap “About
    4. Tap “Software information
    5. Check if a new update is available and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: A reboot may be required in the process)
