WARNING! When you factory reset your smartphone, all personal data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, contacts, applications, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings”
    3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
    4. Enable or disable “Automatic Restore” and “Backup my data”
    5. Tap “Reset phone” and if your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password to proceed
    6. Optionally you can choose to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data stored on the SD card will be deleted during the factory reset
    7. When presented with the “Warning” pop-up, tap “OK”

    Factory Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it using the method above, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. You can access the menu by performing a combination of button presses, as follows:

    1. First make sure the phone is powered off
    2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
    3. When the phone vibrates, release “Power”
    4. When you gain access to the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down”
    5. Once in the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “reboot to bootloader"
    6. Press “Power” to select the option
    7. Highlight “Boot to Recovery mode” using “Volume down"
    8. Press “Power” again
    9. Wait for the HTC logo to appear, and then for the “No Command” screen (showing a big exclamation mark)
    10. While viewing the No Command screen, press and hold “Power” and then tap “Volume down”. Release “Power” as soon as you gain access to “Android Recovery”
    11. Once in the Recovery menu, navigate it using the volume buttons and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
    12. Press “Power”
    13. Highlight “Yes – delete all user data” to confirm and press “Power”
    14. Once the reset is complete, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” one last time

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have factory reset your device, it’s recommended to check for new software updates.

    1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
    2. Scroll to and tap “About”
    3. Tap “Software information”
    4. Check if a new OS update is available for download, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update
