Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing the issues by clearing the app cache and/or data.

WARNING When you clear an app’s data, all of your personal data on the phone will be deleted, including login information, save files, custom settings, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

1. Launch “Settings”
2. Access “Apps”
3. Switch to “All apps” and select the desired app
4. Access “Storage” and tap “Clear cache”
5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the warning above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset, without losing personal data from the device.

1. Turn the phone off
2. Press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” at the same time
3. Release the buttons at the “Boot Mode Selection” screen
4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly until you highlight “Recovery”
5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
6. At the “No Command” screen, press “power” and “Volume up” at the same time to access Android Recovery
7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to highlight “Wipe cache partition”
8. Press “Power” to select the option, then highlight “Reboot system now”
9. Press “Power” one last time to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot the device:

1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
2. Tap and hold “power off” in the power management pop-up
3. When prompted to “Reboot to Safe Mode” tap “OK”. After the phone finishes rebooting, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
4. To uninstall an app, go to “Settings” > “Apps” and switch to “All apps” if necessary
5. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
6. To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
