    I found an I730 in a bar 2 months ago and I put my I90 SIM in it and it is working fine minus the extra features. I bought falcon SIM from e-bay and I want to activate it. Can it be done without Nextel or Signal finding out the phone was lost? What do I need to get the insurance to transfer to an I730? Also this phone tends to cut out or lose signal sparadically. It drops calls because the signal goes from full strength to no bars, when I am stationary? What gives? I never had this problem with my I90.

    Just a thought...

    Well, first, I'd think about returning it?

    And if nobody claims it, then I'd think about modifying it for your own needs. If I lost my i730 phone, I'd want it back, just a though.

    And if you keep it, hope that the person who lost it doesnt:

    It has been 2 months and nobody has asked. I've lost many cell phones over the years so I know how it feels....

    I just want to know if I can activate it with a new falcon sim and have it insured.

    cust care is going to ask for the sim and serial number. The sim may be good. The serial will come back stolen. If it were older I would say you'd be ok but the have to have the serial number for it unless the person who had it activated it under the cuff also. I would call customer care and say you were looking to buy the phone from ebay and here is the serial and sim and ask if it is ok to use.

    So basically I need to get a bogus serial number to use with my new SIM card. Will my insurance transfer from an i90 to an i730. Does anybody know any web sites where I can get bogus serial numbers?

    Not for nothing this phone really sucks. The signal goes from no bars to full bars without moving locations. Usually when I'm making a phone call. As soon as I hang up, it goes back to full bars. I noticed many people have been complaining about that. I never had this problem with my i90. Has motorolla fixed this problem or is it something i730 usuers have to swallow?

    No website to go to but lets say it is 364veehe3z i would say it was 364veehe3x.. u got me.

    Signal insurance goes buy what Nextel says you have. So when you do the change it will change for them. But signal insurance charges a $100 deductible to replace it as apposed to $35 for your i90. All service centers should charge you $185 to replace it(with a 2-year contract). So you do the math $5 a month $100 deductible only $185 to replace it on the spot for you... 7 - 10 days to do a signal insurance claim. Signal who?

    I730 is currently the worst preforming phone in Nextel's line up. Add to the problem is that Nextel also changed the timing ratio on all the new three digit model phones on the cellular side of their system (they did not touch the 2-way side it already uses that timing). It was to increase the system capacity (double) but at the expense of call quality in weak areas. The first phone ever out by Nextel the Lingo used the same timing 6:1 for both the 2-way and cellular. It was a flop. So Nextel changed the timing on the cellular to 3:1 on the next series the ip370, ir370, and the ip280. They thought that the cellular would not be used as much as the 2-way side so it would not be a problem. Ever notice the 2-way on your i90 broke up a lot like they where gargling under water and was not able to be made out in a weak area but, on cellular you just lose small bits and pieces of the conversation. That is because of the timing ratio difference of them. Now they both use the same timing as the 2-way.

    The other thing is that Nextel has always and will probably continue to fake out the general public with their signal strength meter. Notice on your i730 that full signal is green and any thing less is red? Why? Because full signal on any Nextel does not mean you are near a tower, it merely means that you have the minimum requirements for a good call. So in plain English, full signal on a Nextel is equal to 1 to 2 bars on any other cellular phone. So imagine taking that 1 bar of signal and breaking it down to 5 bars. Now you will see why if you fart your signal goes down on a Nextel.

    They say they do it so you could easily judge the quality of a call by seeing full signal = good call and anything less would be poor call quality. I say they did/do it to fake out the users because I am sure that 99% of the readers have never heard of this. Buy a Nextel and you almost always have full signal!!!


    Oh, buy the data cable and make sure you have the latest software in the i730 they have had about 5 upgrade patches for it making several fixes. A service center will charge you $15 to do the patches.

    motorola has admitted that the phone has problems but they have a new update to get rid of that!

    Thanks for everything. Somebody told me the older i730's have the dropped call weak signal problem but Motorolla made some newer models which do not have this problem. Nextel said that if I am experiencing signal issues that I should send it into Motorolla and they would fix it. Of course I can't do that since this phone was lost & found. Hopefully when it comes time to put a claim into the insurance I will get an i730 that works well. Is this just a bunch of BS, or is there truth to this rumor.

    I took your advice and bought a data cable from e-bay for like $10, it has no software. I figured I can download the software from Motorolla's wevsite.

    Also if I use a bogus IMEI # and the new falcon sim I bought, activate the phone, would I be able to bring my old sim and new sim into a service center and transfer all the data? Do they charge for that?

    If you get the cable you can download the software to copy your own numbers over and save $15

    I'm sure if you really tried hard enough you could try and give it back. Look through the phone book and maybe find a contact that says "Home" and try giving that a call. By now I'm sure they've got a new phone and wouldn't mind if you kept that one. Atleast that way you could sleep easier at night.
