Now with Nextel agreeing with the FCC to switch frequencies so as not to interfere with 800 mhz, does anyone know if we'll eventually have to get new phones?

the iden network as we know it will continue to opperate through at least 2006 or 7 at which point they will start switching to the CMDA network that both nextel and sprint will be working to move to. this higher frequency allows significantly more handsets to operate on a given number of towers. they are currently working on a direct connect that works as fast if not faster on the new network. the answer to you question is yes but not for a couple of years and I am sure they will work out some sort of deal at that time.
