just bought an i 860 and am trying to download my ringtones. I keep gettng a message "iDEN Java Application Loader: A general communication error occured while communicating to the phone. Please verify the connection between the computer, phone and the cable as well as your preference settings are set to 19200" I have done all it asked and i keep getting the same error message. the cable worked when i used it to download to my previous phone i830. any suggestions?

what are you using? webjal? if so, cuz its most likely make sure you go to preferences and check the USB box. and make sure your contacts on the bottom of the phone are clean and the cord plugs in firmly. your XP should even make a little "USB device connected" noise if its plugged in good too.

Think 19200 might be too high for your computer to push down USB!?!
Try setting your communication rate to Auto. I know it's an issue with other things like the iBOARD and the Mini Keyboards. If your USB port is getting a lot of crap coming down it from multiple things in a USB hub setup, that could kill you as well. Try plugging directly into the USB port on the computer instead via a hub. That's always worked for my external CD burner.

usb problems
i tried all the suggestions before i asked for help. i tried changing the baud rate to auto, my computer does make a noise for new hardware, the ringtone is in a wav format--it is one i made and i used it previously on my other phone-it downloaded without a problem,i also tried changing the format to mp3 since my new phone is mp3 capable (trying to download the wav file took up to 30 mins to tell me the communication error at the end), i am using webjal- i have the usb box checked-the only peculiar thing is there never was any comports listed-it still downloaded to my i830 anyways. my phone screen says device attached, i even hold it in just to make sure contact is occuring. the 19200 baud rate worked on the i830 and same computer ( i have a pretty big computer). maybe i should try a new usb cord?
anyways thanks for all the suggestions it is greatly appreciated
