First, of all, i live in way out in the boonies in PA and i get limited service with my phone. I have a i830 and i have a 2 year plan. The problem is, i dont get reception at my house. I live with my folks, and they hooked me up with the deal since my dad got it through work. I tried buying those little sticker reception boosters but that didnt work. Since i have nextel for another whole year i was wondering if there is anything like a code or somethin you could use with the phone that might improve reception? My AIM is pttrnagainstusr, and my email is [email protected].
Please contact me if you have information or could possibly help me in anyway.
    Thanks alot.

    Re: i830+reception help

    Codes really do not work!!!!!!!!!!

Well you can go with a in building amplifier... The run $250 to $600 depending on what kind of sqaure footage you need amp'd up.. The disadvantage is Nextel is undergoing a massive freq change that may render the amp no good.

A cheaper alternative is a fixed high gain antenna high up on the house with cable coming down to the phone. It doesn't work as well as the booster and the antenna cable if run a long distance will loose any gain from the antenna. Also the i830 does not have a servicable antenna port for just this situation so you have to go with the generic inductive connections that do not work well.

A nice set up would be a full blow handsfree kit for the car, a 12 volt converter (for power), and 25 db yagi antenna 806 to 869 mhz with 20 foot of low loss cord. All new would run you about $180 bucks but ebay would/should have the kit and power supply used..

Another thing to try is to call the local rep and ask them if you have an upgrade restriction on your phone. If they say no, then you can switch to Sprint PCS even if you are in contract and with out the early termination fee. Sprint considers it an upgrade and not a cancel. Sprint has free roaming on most of thier plans and Eastern PA roaming is on Verizon for free. Or hold tight... I was told for sure the new cdma/iden hybrid will be out 4th qaurter. It will be a bottom of the line limited features phone like the i60.
