I have the Nextel i850 and for a couples days now I have notice my phone shuts off on me on its own. I wondering if anyone has had a problem similar to this. I was wondering if by just changing the battery that might solve the problem or could be something else?

Yes, Common problem with most of the newer nextel phones.. If you have under 400 mins total usage press #* menu right arrow real fast then you should see total usage. Under 400 mins take everything back to were you purchased it. They will (or should) swap it out for under iStep. If you are over 400 but under a month old call and add ESRP on it. When you take it to a service center it will get swapped for free (with a refurb) or it is $35 if you don't add ESRP. You can only add it in the 1st 30 days.
It is a software error that causes the powering most of the time (the battery will also cause it to power down too). If you have a datacable and want to try to recover it yourself you can. Go to www.mot.com/iden click pc software then software updates. Find the i850. Download and install the utility. Make sure the phone is unplugged while installing it. It will silently reinstall the usb drivers again. Plug the phone ing an give it a sec incase your computer needs to reinstall the new drivers. then update software with out default java aps. When it is complete, check the box that says to recover a phone and run it again unly this time choose with default java aps.. Make sure you follow the directions with the java aps. There is a good possiblity that this could crap out your phone and you will loose everything in it except your phonebook. Motorola claims that java aps and some custom midi ringtones can cause a lot of software problems.
While in the trace mode at the top of this scroll all the way to the bottom and it will have resets.. This is where the phone store data on errors and power downs. I have a really old tech manual that will tell me what a lot of those errors mean.

Re: My i850 Turns off on its own
My phone did/does that too, and I talked to my friends about it, and they said they knew people that their phones did that too. I absolutely like hate this phone. When i got mine checked out they said i had a dent on the...inter part of the phone which causes it to short out, and shut off.
They said either i had done it, or when i sent it in to nextel the first time it messed up, they had done it...
To be completely honest, i'm really dissapointed with nextel, and this phone especially.
But i dont know if this helped or anything..just thought i'd say it.

My mom doesn't have the i850 but a similar model and it does the same thing. She never figured out a fix and finally just got a new phone. Do you think it might be the battery and the power not being relayed or something?
