OK, can anyone tell what the difference is internaly between the PTT function of a phone from Verizon or ATT versus a Nextel phone? The size factor and the non release of good phones is really upsetting especially since there are blackberry's that are thin and have the PTT function on other carriers.

    Thanks.

the difference is Verizon, Att use VOIP packets for direct connect whereas IDEN (Nextel) is more like a broadcast system, similar to any two-way radio. this is where the speed comes from. THe VOIP systems are to slow due to lack of network speeds. once the broadband sytems are all up and running you will see VOIP sytems with the speeds nextel enjoys. In fact, the system being designed to replace the nextel system through Sprint is a VOIP sytem called Qchat. it will have the speed of nextel but with a great deal more features.
