Your code plug holds the configuration information for your phone. Depending on how you read & write the CP as to what you are reading and writing. If the phone is in RSS mode then you are reading only the code plug. If you put the phone in flash mode by pressing the 2 softbuttons while powering on the phone you can read and write not only the codeplug but also the underlying phone software as well. This is great for when you have a phone that errors on power up.
