this phone uses CDMA technology, therefore it can only be use on that type of service, sprint, verizion and Alltel here in the US. contries like canada have CDMA carriers but most of the rest of the world is mainly GSM. where would you like to have it work at?

then yes, it should be able to be unlocked to work with the CDMA carrier, contact sprint and ask how to unlock, they have just changed their corporate policy to allow phones to be unlocked to be used with other carriers after loosing a lawsuit in California. I do not know if it might somehow exclude the IC phones which are on the nextel line, but it shouldn't. try calling and see were you get.

Re: How to unlock nextel moto ic502

Very Important is the cdma service 1900 mhz? the ic502 doesn't do the lower 800~900 bands.

If so would it need to be unlocked? just the prl file needs to be changed program it and activate the esn? the only catch would be the programming. on power back up it will need an iden sim that is active in the nextel foot print. I have done the prl for sprint pcs customers where they think sprint stinks so I reprogram the prl to scan and get verizon all the time 1st then sprint 2nd.

I also used a motorola razr tool to do software update on an ic502 and it blew out all lock codes (msl) and programming and the in progress screens. you just need the software file.. I should have it somewhere?

The unlocking thing is for the phone to accept sim cards but the phone doesn't need any other sim card to work just leave a nextel sim in it.

More importantly the question is why the ic502???????

this is where is got the prl editor & software flash tool: www.motox.us
I can get the software file but 1st confirm that the carrier is 1900mhz cdma & that they will input the esn in to their system & activate it.
