Transfer Audio Files from a Computer:

NOTE: There are several ways you can transfer audio files from a computer to use as ringtones. They differ depending on the OS / type of computer you have and preferences. You can visit this page for instructions on how to transfer audio files using the Microsoft Phone Companion app or the classic Windows Phone app for desktop.

To transfer audio files manually without using other tools:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Lumia 550 and computer
  2. Open the file explorer on your computer
  3. Navigate to the audio files you want to transfer on your phone
  4. Copy the files and paste them in the “Ringtones” directory located in the “Phone” root folder
  5. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage and safely disconnect it from the USB connector

Change the General Ringtone:

  1. On the Start screen, tap “Settings
  2. Scroll to, and tap “Personalization” > “Sound
  3. Tap the “Ringtone” drop-down menu and select a new ringtone
  4. Optionally, you can enable or disable “Vibrate

Change the Ringtone of a Contact:

  1. Tap the “People” tile on the Start screen
  2. Tap the contact you want to edit
  3. Tap “Edit” > “Ringtone
  4. Select the desired ringtone and tap “Save

Change Notification Settings for Applications:

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Tap “Personalization
  3. Go to “Sounds"
  4. Swipe down and tap “Manage app sounds
  5. From here, you can adjust notifications for each app individually

Block / Unblock Lock Screen Notifications:

NOTE: For increased privacy you can set your phone to hide notifications on the lock screen. To do this:

  1. Tap “Settings” on the Start screen
  2. Tap “System” > “Notifications & Actions
  3. Tap “Show notifications on the lock screen” to turn the feature On or Off
