no, the only screen saver that a 6610 can have is the digital clock

I think the only phone which can change it's screensaver for s30 and s40 would be the 3100,... hopefully 6230 too when it's released,....

Even Series 60 have got the same old digital clock(possibly you could change it, but it would revert back to the clock to conserve battery)

well when you change 6610`s software to 5.52 ? still not posible ? it`s a shame a phone that costs twice az 3100 to have 1/2 of his functions

Who said it has half the functions.
The 6610 is aimed for the executives who won't be interested with the screensaver things. The 3100 is aimed for the youth who want to show off.
Here is a list of Functions present in the 6610 not available in the 3100:

    1. Infra Red: Arguably the most useful things for people who want to remain connected without the hassles of the wires. The 6610 has got IR for transfer of V-cards and for connectivity with PCs. The 3100 lacks the Infra red connection.

Advantage: This is a great use for people connecting to the desktop storing their personal contacts etc. they don't need to shell out another $50 to buy a cable, and it can be used on virtually any PC with an IR connection, which many have.

    2. GPRS modem: And this one is a boon for the people who are on the move and want the work done fast. 6610 can be used as a PC modem, ie connected to the computer and used to surf the internet on the PC with the normal GPRS Provider(ie Service Provider). The 3100 cannot be used as a modem.

Advantage: Great for mobile people, who use their laptops often for surfing the net. No tensions of having to find the phoneline in the hotel room and all. If the laptop and the mobile are both adequately charged then you can even surf the Net in the bus, car, train, above the train etc...

    3. FM Radio: This one isn't that important but still a feature nonetheless, for those on the move who want to listen to some good ol' melodies or the raging new ones. It's free also.

Advantage: No real advantage, but if you don't own a laptop this can be a great past time.

    4. Speakerphone: I don't think the Nokia 3100 has a speakerphone. Correct me if I'm wrong. The 6610 has one, and it is very useful.

Advantage: Speakerphone is handy if your ear starts paining due to prolonged contact of the phone to the ear. Just activate it, and then you can talk at a good distance of max. 2 feet.

Now tell me do you still like a stupid animated screensaver, rather than such goody good functions. If yes, then get the 3100 as the 6610 isn't meant for you!

yes ... that are big features ... but one thing ... if the 6610 is for people interested in the phone az a tool not a toy ... why does my software move much slower than 3100`s ? i`m geting over everything else ... i realy like the animated gifs and a nifty wallpaper ... i dont use the IrDA cawse my desktop pc does not have an infrared ... that`s a thing i get over too ... well the FM i couldn`t co without ... i love this phone becawse the FM i use it almoust every day ... but why ... what`s stoping people from nokia to alow a nice animated gif to be played ? or to alow exchange of pictures and melodies by IrDA ... like other phones ? i love NOKIA ... my first phone was a 3310 and i will never betrade the brand ... but i`m a little disapointed by the features in my phone ... i was hoping on things like that when i bought the phone ... my question was is there diference in phone features between software version 4.74 and 5.52 ... ?

See, the animated Gifs, once activated also take battery power.
Now if you use FM, it drains battery, then there's the SpeakerPhone also, after that if they'd put the animated GIFs then the battery life would certainly be lesser.
According to me, I found the 6610 firmware quite fast, identical speed to that of the 3100.

And usually in the newer firmware upgrades, they won't add new features, but instead enhance and fix bugs in the normal features, so I don't see any difference in 5.52 over 4.74, except maybe for a few bug fixes.

well a pity ... i was hoping atleast an animated gif support in the new version ... well i`m quite satisfied by the phone ... az a phone ... meaning ... i rocks ... it does not have problems with connection, only thing that bothers me is he shut downs by himself when he gets cold ... about 0 celsius ... and the winter here is a little bad ... it often gets about -10 ... well 10x for the support ski_power i will upgrade my phone`s software even if the new version does not have new features .... i hope they speeded up the software though ... cawse i checked up a 6100 yesterday and he is a phone ment for buisness people much more than 6610 ... and his software is twice faster than mine i look a little fussy but i want a phone that mooves like i want ... when i give 220 EURO for him

Hey Idesign, it would benefit if you upgraded the firmware. The changes will not be instantaneously visible, but will be subtle, like easier navigation and better battery life etc. So I highly recommend you to upgrade( dang, even I need to upgrade).

Edit: Idesign, you don't seem like the other newbies wanting to junk post, which is a great thing. We need more people like you, but it would be better if you could use proper English punctuation like capitalization, full stops, commas, etc. You are in sense breaching statement 9 of the Commandments of the Board
