Who is your service provider? By opened, may I assume unlocked? Where did you get the SIM card? Is it branded or unbranded?

    Re: no signal

Was the phone working with the old SIM? Try taking it out the SIM and putting it back in, it might not have been seated properly. If the phone is unlocked, you may have a bad SIM. Try a different SIM and see if that works.

    Re: no signal

So we know the phone works proprely. Also the phone is GSM 850/1900 and the network is 1900 so the phone is compatable. If the phone is locked try http://unlock.nokiafree.org/. Choose the last code. Or call C&W and ask for the unlock code for their new SIM. Also tell C&W the SIM doesn't work and see if you can get a differnt SIM. It is unlikely that you have a defective SIM but it is possible. I would try unlocking it first.

    Re: no signal

The digicel may not include other networks in there PRL. The only other suggestion I would have is to try another digiel SIM. Try one from freind to see if it works in your phone. Or try getting a new one from your provider and see if that solves your problem. BTW, can you manually select the networks under the menu options on your phone? You could also try that.

    Re: no signal

Here is what I was trying to establish, and I will do that by personal experience: My phone is dual band 850/1800. Cingular operates on 850 in my area. Most triband phones sold are 900/1800/1900 so if I bought one it would be useless to me in this region with my current provider. Just another stab at trying to help you troubleshoot the problem, given that you have not shared critical data in order to make it easier to do so. This is also the last idea I am equipped to suggest.
