I know this isn't normally possible on the N95 8GB (unlike newer phones, where "Switch video light on" is one of the options in Video Recording mode). Still, does anyone know whether the flash can somehow be made to stay on during filming?

I'm only interested in a software hack (e.g. a Video Recorder-type program that can do this); I would probably not take any risks by physically "modding" the phone. I would also not take any risks if anyone will suggest that the flash on the N95 8GB is not designed for staying on for longer than it would take to shoot a picture; in this case, tricking it into staying on for longer would probably just damage it.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

This might be a long shot, but you could try running an application that allows you to use the flash as a torch light. They're not too hard to find if you Google them. You could then start that up, minimise it and see if it still runs whilst the camera is on. You won't have to worry about damaging it - the light on the N95 is an LED light, these can stay lit with no problem. It's the Xeon flashes that you'd have to worry about - they're the faster flashes you find on traditional cameras.

Hey Zarphor92 thanks for your suggestion! Unfortunately, all of those torch apps that I tried (I probably tried all of them) are unable to turn on the flash at full power, it only gives out that red low-energy light. It seems that only S60 5th edition (e.g. N97, 5800) are able to really use their flashes as torches.

Hmm, I'm not really sure what to suggest.I have the 5800 myself and it has an on screen option to turn the light on when on the camera for use with video recording. I do also have a torch application myself which I downloaded. I tried that out to see what would happen and whilst I was able to have the light on when the application was minimised, as soon as I entered the camera application the light turned off - although this may just be because the camera facility had been set to not have the light on, which may have cancelled out the effect of the application... I'll see if I can look into this issue for you

Thanks. I know the 5800 is well catered for in this regard. I';ve given up hope for my N85&N95 8GB. I think I'll just buy a torch
