Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  4. Tap “Display
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you might improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable these features
  3. For GPS options, launch “Settings
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving
  5. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings
  6. Then, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Next, tap “Tethering & mobile hotspot” and disable the option

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to a 2G network.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Enable “2G

Change Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account
  4. Change the available sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life even when not in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “device
  2. Tap “Apps
  3. Make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable it
  5. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall

NOTE: Another way to remove an app from the device is to drag the app’s shortcut from the apps drawer and drop it over the “Uninstall” section at the top of the home screen (visible only when dragging an app shortcut)

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check if new updates are available for download:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates
  4. Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
