Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
- Go to “Battery”
- Tap “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- From the Notification shade, drag the brightness slider towards the left
- For additional options launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
- Optionally you can turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
- For timeout duration settings, go to “Sleep”
- Select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling your device’s connectivity features when not in use, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
- Open “Settings” and go to “Location” for GPS settings
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- To turn off Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “more” under “Wireless & networks”
- Tap “Tethering & mobile hotspot” and disable the option
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & networks”
- Access “Mobile networks”
- Go to “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts’ settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Under “Personal” tap “Accounts”
- Select the desired account
- Change the available sync options to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phone’s battery life when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
- Make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
- To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “About phone”
- Tap “System updates”
- Check if an update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: the update will require at least one reboot)
