Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Device” and tap “Display”
- Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout option
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
- Tap “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
- For additional options, launch “Settings”
- Go to “Location” for GPS options
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the features
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Access “Mobile networks”
- Tap “preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your account’s settings to reduce sync you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Accounts” and select the account you want to use for contact syncing
- Change the account’s settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when not actively in use.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device”
- Tap “Apps” and make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
- To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “About phone”
- Tap “System updates” and check if new updates are available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
