David Fritzinger, Lloyd Parsons, Alan Baker, and other Maccies, have been
telling us for months that the iPhone multitasks.

How could Apple have added multitasking to iPhone 4.0 if the iPhone already
had multitasking in iPhone 3.0 and earlier?

It is actually simple. They are apple fanbois. Hence, they lied.

They are lying even right now, since the iPhone OS4 still does not real
multitasking. It is just a little less crummy than 3.x

    And we were correct.

They have added methods by which they will no *allow* third-party apps
to multitask, but the iPhone OS has had multitasking all along.

In fact it does multi=task right now, just 3rd party apps are not
    allowed to.

it was limited to only the most important apps like browsing, music,
email, phone, contacts, voicemail... now all apps can multitask.

so try and keep up ed!

You're lying, Edwin. What we said was that the iPhone (plus the iPod
Touch and iPad) could run certain programs in the background, namely
the Apple provided apps. For example, I can listen to music on my
Touch and check my mail at the same time.

Simple. New APIs allow *3rd party* applications to run in the
background, which was not allowed previously. No one, to my knowledge,
    claimed anything more

They didn't add multitasking, they have graciously some third party apps
to multitask. If they ask nicely. And complement Jobs on his turtleneck.

Hmm... there a nice simple APIs for the "ask nicely" bit, but I haven't
seen the API for the shirt complements. Maybe something like:

    [[NSComplementDispatcher sharedInstance] sendComplement:@"Nice shirt!"
    toEmail:@"[email protected]"];

Oxford thinks iPhone OS has an "important app" tag on its apps to tell it
    which ones can multitask.

It did have just such a tag, yes: that is conceptually correct.
