Waited for 3.5 hours in Charlotte NC yesterday to get a tow truck from
Cingular Roadside, and still ended up calling another towing company on
my own because Cingular never sent anyone. This was after 3 or 4
confirmation calls on my part that someone was indeed coming.
So don't depend on them.

Re: Cingular Roadside Assistance sucks
You will find this is the same with just about every "Roadside
assistance" program. It would be wiser to get towing added to your
insurance policy or tuck some money away in your wallet for such
occasions and just call your own.

Lisa, I'm sorry you had to learn this the hard way, but it would be my
recommendation that people stop depending on free **** to get one's ass
out of a jam. Cram a coupla bills inside a fold of your purse for that
"special" future need, program your favourite towing company into your
phone, and forget the contractor roadside assistance program that loses
money with <insert wireless carrier name here>. Paying clients always
take priority.
Please tell me you didn't sign up with Cingular for this reason alone.

Re: Cingular Roadside Assistance sucks
She is a "paying client". This isn't a "free" service, it's billed to the
cellular customer at $3/month, akin to an insurance policy. Most people
don't know of a tow truck company that they can trust in every corner of the
United States, so it's not crazy for someone to expect that this service
would provide them one-number convenience for assistance. My wife used the
roadside assistance once, and it worked out very well.

Cingular charges $3/month? Well then, I guess it's worth what she pays
for it. Then again, she wasn't needing a can of gas, a jump, or lock
out. A tow is another kettle of fish altogether, because Cingular
doesn't contract with a towing company to deliver gas, jumper cables, or
a slim jim. A roadside tow truck and Mr. Rescue are two different
levels of service, and only one of those I consider remotely reliable
for $3/month. I would recommend Lisa stick with Mr. Rescue for future
tows only if she arms herself and can lock herself inside her disabled
vehicle for 3.5 hours in blazing summer weather. Personally, I don't
consider that level of risk to be acceptable and I'll gladly spend a few
more bucks to avoid it altogether. I'll be home with a very pleasant
adult bevarage in the pool while she's still peeking over the seatback
to see who ain't coming. Pick your battles, but only if you have a chance.

No, I've had Cingular for a long time, just added RA recently (but will
be dropping it as soon as they reimburse me for this tow...) it's not
free anyway, it's $2.99 per month.

Re: Cingular Roadside Assistance sucks
Lisa,
I have AAA and they are the best.
Get the AAA extended which gives you 100 miles of free towing.
It has gotten me out of may tight situations
