My fiancee and I are going on a cruise in early September. We are
interested in the possibility of staying in touch with family members
back home in the USA. We will be in the Mediterranean area (Barcelona,
    nice, Naples, Rome, Greece, Venice).
She has an old 6340i phone (not activated currently). Can this phone be
used with an international calling card? (she has the SIM card for it,
but it is a US SIM). If so, what are the best calling cards to get?
    GTE/AT&T/etc?

    Thanks.

What you need is an active SIM, either postpaid or prepaid. See the
sections on the FAQ below on international calling.

The Nokia 6340i will not be of much use outside of North America. The
only GSM bands it supports are 850 and 1900 ... neither of which is
    used in Europe.

You will need to obtain a GSM phone which includes the GSM 900 and 1800
MHz bands for optimum coverage. This can either be a dual-band phone which
is set up for 900/1800, or a multiband phone such as the quad-band phones
    sold by numerous companies now.

For multi-country GSM coverage it is best for many to use a prepaid
international roaming SIM. http://www.prepaidgsm.net has some pointers.

Good point. Thanks for catching that.
