Has anyone ever tried out Cingular's service, returned the phone and
canceled the service within the trial peridod and not paid a $36 activation
fee? I want to do a comparsion between Verizon and Cingular nation in the
western mass and Vermont Area but I don't want to pay the activation fee if
they prove to be not as good as Verizon.

Just to let you know I'm in Adams, MA, have had the Cingular Nation plan
for a long time and never have a problem getting a signal. I switched from
TDMA to GSM a month ago and still getting the same great reception. I was
told at the Cingular store they will be turning on a new tower in the
Williamstown area in the next couple of weeks.

Are you using the nokia 6340i? Have you done much traveling into Vermont?

How is the reception in Pittsfield and points south on GSM?

Vermont will be a problem unless you stay in a big city. If you want
coverage outside of the city, you'll have to experiment yourself. Cingular
National (GAIT), Verizon America's choice or National Single Rate, or ATTWS
Network or One Rate. Your carrier and phone must do analog, and you will
pay extra for the coverage. Not a tough decision.

"not as good as Verizon"? Sounds like you made up your mind already.
Don't even bother trying Cingular, you're already going in with low
    expectations.

Right now I'm using the Nokia 3595 and the LG 4010, both GSM only phones.
I've only used them in very southern Vermont with no problem. The maps at
cingular.com are showing a fair amount of Vermont coverage by the end of
    2003.

I haven't done much traveling in south county since I went GSM except down
to the Turnpike. Their maps show almost complete coverage of the county.

I have both Cingular and Verizon. I can state unequivocally that Verizon's
service is better - more coverage, fewer dropped calls. So yeah, the OP should
save his time and his activation fee.

Better for *your* area. When I lived in Florida last year, Cingular won
hands down. Depends on where you are. Cingular allows you to keep
promotions when changing plans without extending your contract. In
fact, Cingular allows you to sign up without a contract (and get
    promotions with it).

Cingular Wireless also charges you for Voice Mail Deposit, even though
they can't explain what it is!!!

Hey! Anyone out there with Cingular Wireless. Check your bill. If you
have minutes charged to you with Voice Mail Deposit as the reason, you
are being ripped off. If that's the case, drop me a line at [email protected]
