    Hi all,

Just got a Sony Ericsson T630 and was try to connect to my PC with an
USB IrDA receiver. After installing the driver for the USB IrDA
receiver, WinXP recognized it just fine and everything. But when I
turn on the Infrared from my T630, it didn't get pick up by the IrDA
receiver at all. I tried it with another Nokia 3320 phone and nothing
happen either. I installed PC software for both Sony Ericssion and
    Nokia.

I'm guessing the chances of my new T630 and old Nokia's infrared going
bad at the same time is pretty slim.

Is there something I forgot to configure here or do I have a bad USB
    IrDA receiver?

    Any advice appricated,
    Thanks
    Bill

If you're running 2k or XP, check that you haven't accidentally disabled
the Infrared Monitoring Service (Control Panel => Admin Tools => Services).

If the phone doesn't get detected even when the T630 and the USB IrDA
bridge have clear line of sight, then the USB IrDA adapter could be bad.

You could also check the manual of your PC motherboard, sometimes the
mobo has a connector for an IrDA module and in the BIOS you can switch
COM2 to IrDA. This way you could skip USB altogether. Modules e.g.
http://tscherwitschke.de/irda.html, if you are for building things
    yourself ;-) (other IrDA receivers TFDU4100, TFDS4500, TFDT4500,
http://www.infrarotport.de/tfd_4.pdf). I suppose you can buy such
modules, ready-made, from mobo manufacturers too...
