Is there any way I can turn off the sound of a shutter release when
using the camera function? Not even my old Pentax SLR was that loud!

A work-around would be to shortly turn off all sounds using the "#"-key
(that's the way I do it on a Z600).

The '#' hash key also does the same thing.,

Try setting the phone on meeting using the profiles or put it on silent.
However this only works with some K700's.

Not on my Z600 (unlocked, standard firmware R5B001) --
Pressing and holding # turns on the screen saver.
Pressing and holding C [Clear] toggles between mute and sound.
This is confirmed in the Z600 manual.

I don't know the firmware version, but on my (Vodafone-branded) Z 600
pressing and holding "#" toggles between mute and sound. Pressing and
holding C [Clear] also toggles between mute and sound. Only pressing C
(without holding) opens a menu for sound/infrared/bluetooth and a fourth
option I just forgot.

Now that's interesting because on a k700i I've borrowed, same firmware,
unbranded, unlocked. I can turn off the camera sound by selecting mute
(holding 'C' or '#')

Selecting Mute (holding "C") or Meeting (pressing once "C" and select
profile) doesn't turn camera sound off on my K700i branded Vodafone with
firmware R2v001 (same as R2L001 but for Vodafone customers)

'Curiouser and curiouser!' Wonder if "smstextaddict.co.uk"s k700i is
SP branded to.
The *un-mutable* loud camera shutter sound being something that the
SPs(Vodafone etc.) have insisted upon ?
BTW the 'Meeting' profile in the unbranded k700i I've got here, also mutes
the camera noise

PS.
The noise this phone makes when taking pictures sounds just like my old
USSR manufactured Zenit 11 mechanical SLR camera, in fact the phone is
louder !

On my Vodafone-branded K700i it only works, when i set the volume of the
ringtone to 0.
Menu -> Settings (last item in the bottom right) -> Sounds & alerts (2nd
item) -> Volume (1st item) -> set it to 0
It also works, when saving this setting to a profile and select it, when
you need the camera-sound off.
Please note: I have a german Vodafone-branded K700. There may be
differences in the Menu.
cheers
