Just got this phone a couple of days ago.

Looks are fantastic as with many SE phones, I hope the build quality is
better than my previous t68i or Z600. The screen resolution is very clear
and most functions are easy to use, however three questions:

    1. On my nokia phones, I could search names using more than 1 letter, e.g.
if you have 15 contacts beginning with "S", you can search by 2nd, 3rd
letters etc. On the t68i, you could do this by holding the joystick to the
right, but this deosnt work on the 700i. As yet I havent managed to discover
a way to do this on the S700i, does anyone know of a way or can suggest a
way to try which works on an alternative SE phone??

    2. Edit SIM positions, any software to do this? There was some s/w that
could do this for the t68i.

    3. I want some basic ringtones - you know, basic ring, low ring etc, where
can I get these online without waiting to get hold of a friend who can BT
    these to me?

    TIA.

I personally think the Z600 build quality is excellent, the T68i very good.

True, although not as bright as the best of the Asia screens, the benefit of
less brightness being longer battery life.

AFAIK there's no way to do that.

    Try http://fma.sourceforge.net/

Maybe I'm just very careless with my phones but the nokias I had previously
were more robust. One very annoying feature of the t68i was the volume was
only controllable via the little side switch which broke off all the time.

One thing I forgot to mention which was very annoying with the previous SEs
I had was the time taken to boot up and make calls, especially from SIM.
USed to take over a minute and inevitably you would be pressing buttons
before this and it would take you into the wrong screens! So far, the S700
seems much faster and on a par with Nokia.

Shame, its a pain scrolling through lots of names.

Thanks again, not quite what I'm looking for though, I was looking for the
basic "ring ring" ringtones you get on Nokia.

I can sync SIM entries but cant edit them, let alone edit their positions.
Tried searching the forums but no topics posted. Do you know how it can be
    done?

    TIA.

To search for contacts (Z600): Menu -> 8 (Phonebook) -> 3 (Call Contact)
This can of course be set as a Shortcut. If put on Shortcut 1, it can be
invoked with a single press of the left rocker key.

    You can:
    * Reindex (Sort) All Contacts
    * Export, delete/edit, and then Import contacts

Thanks - also managed to install an earlier version 0.9.9.13 which allows
    easy editing!
