To get free ringtones from the net ( I mean: any tone you find and
    which you can 'preview'):

just connect the audio-out jack of your soundcard to the audio in-jack
and record the tones you "preview" from the WWW-sites with the Windows
soundrecorder, setting the recording volume with Windows volume
control, or with Super MP3 Recorder Pro 6.2

Connect with a stereo cable with a 3.5 mm stereo jack on each end.
    Can be bought or made

Convert to desired format using any conversion program that has trial
    versions. (google for it)

et voila ! you can get any 'previewable' ringtone for free !

Works like a charm for me: I just added 20 ringtones (including some
John Cleese ones, real cool) to my phone
    without getting ripped off.

I strip leading and trailing silence in the recordings with Super MP3
    recorder/Editor.

An easier process with many sound cards is just recording from the mixer
    -- no need for cables.

If your phone supports MP3 audio, and if your soundcard supports mixer
output, you can record, convert, and download the audio preview from
iTunes. Huge selection. Very good quality. Audacity as the sound app.

Call me strange, but what's wrong with "ring ring" for a ring-tone?
Maybe it's because I see my phone as a tool, not a fashion accessory...

ummmm, yes, maybe. But that is a statement, not a critique...
No one would download ****ty tones.
    Only the ones worth stealing.
So what is your point besides this statement ?
seems like your comment was not very well thought through...

in the attic of his mind
    not much daylight ever shined...
