I checked last night and it was R2E*** - that does not sound too good to me :-(

Does any body know if this version is affected by the problem?

I bought the phone from OneStopPhoneShop so I do not really want to
involve them as many have said they have very poor customer service.

I think I should probably ring T-Mobile first to see what they say
(after all if my phone will not work they will not get any extra money
out of me) and contact SonyEricsson afterwards, if necessary.

I have also got a T68i on Orange with version R2F*** but this has not
started to exhibit the problem yet. I know Orange "play around" with
the firmware so can I get this phone upgraded by SonyEricsson? If not,
would Orange upgrade it for me for free if it has not shown any
problems yet (after all it may save them a bigger repair bill in the
    future)?

It is the retailers responsibilty not the network provider. Second to the
    retailer is the manufacturer.

    >>> I'm not sure how it works on T-Mobile but on Orange if you badger

Try sending an email or a letter instead (with advice from Trading
Standards) and you will find Orange more likely to offer a replacement. Get
    things in writing.

    >> Does anyone know which version of firmware fixed this problem?
    >> I'm wondering whether mine (R6A...) is going to be problematic.

I dont think there is a current firmware version that fixes the problem...
that is the problem!!! Orange told me they had contacted Sony Ericsson
discovered that it is related to the T68i trying to find the best signal
from all networks... this is an issue in the UK due to the way our networks
are set up ... something like that anyway.

Orange agreed that they couldnt guarantee a replacement T68i would correct
my problem so offered me a different model. It took a lot of hassling to get
them to say that though Dont use the first point of contact (i.e. support
telephone people) as they have set processes they have to follow and have no
    authority to do anything else.

    > I have also got a T68i on Orange with version R2F*** but this has not

Mine is R6* and when I phoned Sony Ericsson they told me that is what they
would probably install to try to fix the problem... thats why I didnt go
    down the firmware upgrade route.

There is no way Orange will not upgrade it for free if you dont yet have a
problem... it seems that some of the phones are OK... dont know why. They
will debug your phone before taking your complaint seriously.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom

I took my T68i with R2F on it into the Orange service centre on Oxford St
about a month ago, left the phone with them for 2 hours (they lent me an
8210 for the time they had the phone) and they flashed the firmware to R6A.
    There was no charge...

I think he might have meant upgrade the phone to a better model, as he
suggested that eventual signal failure is an inherent fault with the
    phone, not firmware dependent.

yes sorry i didnt make that too clear, I meant upgrade to a new model would
not be free in that case.

Never had the signal drop problem. It did, however solve the unable to save
non Orange data accounts problem the affected all Orange R2F handsets.

Woah. Is this a problem with all older firmwares, or just Orange?

(I kind of thought my phone was running cooler once my firmware upgrade,
but I convinced myself it was my imagination.)

Orange is the problem, they have the worst reception of all UK networks,
    Vodafone is best
