I want a cellphone that doesn't require monthly payments as I want to use it
mostly as an emergency phone to keep in the car. A tracfone was suggested.
Is it the only option for me?

    Thanks,
    Jo

    Re: Tracfone

There are several prepaid plans around and your mileage may vary depending
on your location. Here's one of many sites that list different prepaid
    services.

Also, phone prices vary greatly for prepaid service. One website may
advertise the same phone as another for considerably less, so shop around.

I find that Tracfone has the best deal for me. I don't use the phone much
mostly for short calls and emergencies.

Tracfone is having a deal right now.

For $29.99 you can get a refurbished phone and a 100 minute card.
When you activate the phone online you get an additional 20 minutes.

But, before you activate your new phone if you send an email to
    comod AT softhome.net
saying "refer me" you will receive an email from the Tracfone Company with
instructions for activating the phone and then for receiving 100 free
minutes. In addition you will receive a special "bonus code" that will give
you an additional 20 minutes when you activate your 100 minute card.
You will also receive a booklet of other bonus codes

So that works out to 240 minutes (4 hours) of talk time and a phone for
    29.99 plus shipping.
