With my Nokia, I able to go to my address book, select an item, and "send"
that to another phone, either via infrared or SMS. The recipient was
asked if they wanted to accept contact information, and then it would be
    entered into their addressbook.

With my Motorola V551, I see what might be a way to send it via bluetooth,
but I don't see a way to send it via SMS. Is it there somewhere?

I don't have a v551 but on the v3i, which has a similar menu structure,
if you press menu while on a phonebook entry there is an item (the last
one) that says "Share Phonebook Entry" which takes you to a choice of
sending it via BT or MMS.

Nope. Looking at the list of names, with one highlighted, menu brings up a
list of actions. The last few are Talk-then-fax, setup, and send. Send
asks if I want to turn on bluetooth. If I say no, it exits. If I try menu
while viewing the contact, I see the same list, except "copy all text" is
    added between setup and send.

Maybe this is a Cingular limitation, not a phone limitation.

    Ok, try this:
Menu: Messages: New Message: New Multimedia Message: Select: Menu:
Insert: Contact Info: Phonebook: then select the Phonebook entry.

Again, you may not have the same options on the V551 but it's worth a
    try.

I went down that path a little ways. New MM-message, insert Contact Info,
find it, add, then it goes to a text-like screen, and all that's there is
the phone number from the contact info.
So, I'm "done" and select a recipient, done. It says the message is a
slide show, and I stopped there.

So, this time I continued. I just sent one of those to my email address...

I received the email, but it isn't contact information. It's just a blank
multimedia message. From the Nokia, I thought I had sent a contact to my
email in this fashion, and I got an attached .vcf file.

I'll send it to my phone and see what happens.

All I got was a message that said it was a slide show. When I played it,
it showed the phone number on a blank white background.

That's the same way iy worked for me too. I also tried sending as a
"letter" with the same result. Doing it the way I described in my
earlier reply both name and number are sent. There may be some SEEM
edits you can do to add the feature.

Well, this is the long way.
    Go to address book
    Then view
    Then go to menu
You will find "Copy all Text" select that
After that go back and then to your message center
    Select "create message"
    Select "new text msg"
    Then select menu.
    The you can select "paste"
Only way I have found to do it.
