about a week ago I read abunch of problems from the i730 and the .06
software update, about phones dyin. Well later that same day or the
next Motorola pulled the update and posted .04 back up. Today they
re-released it and everyone on hofo was telling success stories of the
new update so I gave it a try and now have a $300 paper weight I tried
holding down 1, 2, 3 then power up to get into flashstrap...no luck.
Tried using idenupdate, skip phone read then restore phone but no
luck....Nextel's tech support couldn't help either and just said take it
    to a service center....

Anyone with similiar?? or any advice? when you power up the phone
usually says "i730" then "Nextel" then "t9" then "please wait
connecting.." but right now gets no further than "i730"

did you create a backup before trying to put the software on? if not then you may have that $300 paperweight. take it to a NRS...hopefully you have signal or NSP $2.50. if not make friends with an NRS

I had exactly the same problem happen to me when I went to .6, the phone would just sit at i730 and that was it. Couldn't get to the firmware and nothing would connect to it.

Luckily I bought the phone a week before and Nextel was willing to take it back in exchange for another new phone, too bad the springs on this new phone aren't quiet! But I at least have a new phone again.

I found a way to by-pass the bootup of the phone. Hold down both
softkeys then while holding them hit power....it will come up to
"Flashstrap" screen....then connect your data cable, open idenupdate,
click "skip phone read" then do restore to previous version.
