My i90's backlight works perfectly fine. Not dull at all, can even use it to
light my way in dark area's heh.

Maybe you should either take yours back and ask your dealer to give you a new
one, or send it to Motorola and see if they can fix it.

Re: i90 easy to read at night?

Since posting this, I've actually gotten to look at a couple of i90's, the
keys are well-lit, but the blue-green display screen is not particularly
visible at night, IMO. With voice activated dialing, the lack of being able
to easily read your phone directory (e.g. while driving at night) doesn't
matter much if you're calling someone you know and (hopefully) remember what
their voice prompt is. Hoping this will be better with the i95 or i730 color
    screens.

It would be nice on future models if voice activation were extended to cover
dialing, so you just speak the phone number, phone repeats it back and dials
    it for you.

Followup: last night I rode in a car with OnStar--driver was able to
    voice-dial a number by just saying the phone #, 1 digit at a time--why can't
    these Nextel phones do that?

Have you actually seen any other carriers phone who can do that? OnStar is a
whole different beast then a cell phone.

Re: i90 easy to read at night?

Hey, I don't know whether or not any other wireless phone carrier's cell
phones allow me to voice-dial a number as described. If not, then why not?
I've been able to check United Parcel Service tracking numbers on the phone
using voice, not keys, for years. Long number, combination of numbers and
letters, no voice training of software, gets it right every time. Let me
re-state what I said: I want this technology for my cell phone now. It would
make using my cell phone in the car easier and safer. If another carrier has
this technology in place now, at a reasonable price, and all other things
(like coverage) being equal, I would leave Nextel to go to that carrier.

I gathered that from your OP...

    > It would make using my cell phone in the car easier and safer.

Most phones that I've seen and used have voice activated dialing, other then
that I haven't seen what you describe.

Well do some research then and find the phone that you're looking for. The i90
and up has voice activated dialing (don't know about i60 etc.), so if that
doesn't suffice, find something that you'll be happy with.

Actually I seen a friend do that on his phone. Cant remember which
carrier but it was a kyocera (sp?).

    Follow-up:

Just bought an i95, and, unlike my i90 (and other i90's I've looked at since
I originally posted the question), you CAN read it at night in a dark place.
No comparison. Will sell my i90 and replace it with another i95.
