I'm currently a Boost users (Owned by Nextel) and I inquired at one of
Nextel's stores about moving my phone number to a Nextel account. They said
that they can't do that and didn't offer any explanation other than "it
can't be done". This kind of stinks. I get great Nextel coverage at my
business/home and I want to move to a cheaper subscription plan.

Is it true that my phone number can not be moved over and if so, why?

Only the top 100 markets can port their number right now. As of May 24th
all markets will have the ability to port.

Does Boost offer numbers in your area, and do they participate in
    wireless number portability?

I'm not saying it's possible, but you could easily have been talking to
someone on the slower side of the track. Their scripts probably say "no
Nextel/Boost interoperability" when in reality it MIGHT be possible to
simply port numbers back and forth.

One thing you could try, don't tell them that it's Nextel vs Boost, just
    try to port the number.

Try this link on Nextel's website to see if it's eligible?

    http://nextelonline.nextel.com/NASAp...ion/PECLanding

I tried the site but I get at "Eligibility can't be determined." - which is
why I then tried speaking to one of their reps.

San Diego - does that make a difference?

If the Boost number you have is a San Diego number, you should be able to
    port it.

Just for kicks, I went to the website and put three different number in- one
which I know is already assigned to Nextel, my landline number, and a phone
number from rural Vermont (yeah- I know- its all rural in VT). The website
told me that the first number couldn't be ported because it was already
assigned to Nextel, my landline could be ported (I'm in a top 100 market)
and the third number could not be ported at this time- all expected results.
I didn't get the error message you did on any of the numbers.

Try talking to Boost Customer Service about it, because it would appear to
be some kind of problem between Boost and Nextel, and Boost is probably
going to be more aware of it than Nextel.

I've moved Boost to Nextel. Just takes a little convincing to the customer
service rep to do it. They're sometimes lazy.

    US Digital.

I'm assuming that is the Nextel Customer Rep? Was it with a local store or
via a phone call to them?
