We are trying to deploy Nextel in all our locations and the people in our
office in central Florida have told us they've tried Nextel for their
drivers who go up and down the state and the service sucks compared to AT&T
(yeah, that's the first time I've heard someone praise AT&T, too).

So is Florida really a problem? I've drove around the state last year, from
Miami to Orlando, Sebring to Orlando, and back to the Mt. Dora area and
can't remember having any trouble, however I was on vacation so I wasn't
    very active.

It's actually just the opposite, NEXTEL has supurb coverage in
Florida. With a Motorola plant located in western Fort. Lauderdale
where the iDEN handsets are engineered and shipped out of, NEXTEL
typicially keeps their network running top notch. Now they do have
some drive time capacity issues, but all carriers get that
    ocassionally.

AT&T & Cinglular have excellent footprints as well so you can't go
    wrong with any of them.

I live in central Florida (Ocala area), and I have found NEXTEL's coverage
to be on par with almost everyone's digital coverage (analog is still all
you get get out in the boonies in some cases), and even have better coverage
that some other carriers. Overall I'd have to disagree and say that
NEXTEL's coverage, at least everywhere I've been, has been very good.

I feel lucky to live in Florida and have Nextel. I think we have great coverage. I live in central Fl. No prob in the greater Orlando area, really happy. Brother lives in Ft. Lauderdale......no problems on my visits to him. I travel the central east coa
st and have found no issues from Dayona to Vero Beach. And I go to Jacksonville on occasion, no issues. Is it perfect........no. Is any provider? I have a dropeed call rarely..........and the DC has the occasional hiccup........

Anyone reside in Manatee, Sarasota or Charlotte Counties? The service is
almost non-existent in the Venice area. From the Skyway Bridge to I75 south
all the way through Brandenton/Sarasota is non-existent. We have written a
dozen letters to Nextel that were all met with the same response - we are
looking for land to place additional towers.

I will check the tower list the FCC releases and see how the coverage is.....do you have Nextel or did you switch to something you can use there?

I live in Venice, work in Bradenton and travel I75 between them twice a day.
Have had nextel for 4 years now, and it is as good as anybody in this area.
Also had Sprint, ATT, and currently have Verizon in same area. All are
adequate coverage wise, but Nextel in my opinion, consistently outperforms
them. There are two 'light' coverage spots on I75 between Sarasota and
Venice, but coverage overall, and in the Venice area itself is fantastic.
Had an old yellow I700, an I60, and currently use an I730. Good reception
all, in my area, as well as all over S. Florida. When my contract is up with
Verizon in Sept., I'm bringing my wife and kids phones into the Nextel fold
    as well.
