I have just ordered (2) i355's. These have Nextel's new "Direct Talk"
walkie talkie feature as described from their website...
Nextel's all-digital off-network walkie-talkie that works anywhere,
anytime between compatible phones within a range of up to 6 miles
(range will vary based on terrain and conditions). Direct Talk provides
reliable back-up communications tool in times of emergency, network
outage, or when traveling to remote areas not under Nextel coverage
such as hiking, cruise vacations or inside buildings.
Anyone have experience with this new feature? I also need to know if
this is a separate FRS radio feature or do they use existing Nextel
800 MHz frequencies?

Re: i355
6 miles...............LOL YEA OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You will only be looking at about a mile range. There are exceptions though
b/c of the terrain. But about the only way you would reach 6 miles is that
if your on top of a mountian.
