Can Nextel find out what kind of phone you are using by you're SIM card?

no, but I think they can tell if you put your sim card in a blackberry and try to use it.

By use of the SIM, probably not. However, I had heard a rumor some time
back that they were exploring some kind of IMEI identification to help
detect theft and fraud.

they can do an IMEI search of the phone and find out which account the sim
card is registered to.
my phone was recovered by nextel following a theft by that method; the thief
put his sim in my phone.

i think the ultimate answer to the question is that unless you have a stolen phone, there should be nothing to prompt Nextel to find out what type of phone you have.

what i was trying to say is that in my experience unless the phone was stolen, they do not care what phone you have and if you did call and their records indicated you had a different phone than what you were using they would just update their system to show your new phone.
