Ok, and that has what to do with PTT?

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
What does this mean? Nothing! They are cutting people just like any
other job and it will not have an effect on anything!!

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
All larger companies have layoffs. About the only affect I see on the
PTT will be that it gets pushed too hard and fast just to attract
customers. Nothing works well at first, this could cause frustration
to users migrated from Nextel.

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
A financially strong company does not lay off 5000 people.

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
If you are a business player, they do it for major reasons. One easy
one would be that they have lower payouts so they can charge cheaper
rates to customers or even temps to take care of a new launch of
something. Besides, they have more than just cellular!!

Verizon Communications and Verizon Wireless are seperate firms. This is not
about Wireless.

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
A financially strong company stays financially strong by reacting to
market shifts, economic downturns, increases in interest rates and
competitive shifting and pressure. If layoffs are part of this, they
are part of it. You must remember that Verizon is one of the largest
employers in the world and still is reorganizing from its consolidation
into one company from 3 years ago. There are people across the company
doing the same jobs even though there is wireless displacement and a
slow uptake in broadband access. Why are they necessary? The average
Verizon technician makes between 70-80k per year with benefits and
retirement packages included. If people are cancelling their landline
service at a rapid clip, why would their be more workload to process
with less customers to serve?
Just me 2c...

Re: For all those waiting for Verizon's new PTT service
Verizon has been laying off thousands of people, and I was a Supervisor for
them before, and my brother is expecting every day to be his last...
Verizon has management issues now at the top.
Plus, we used Nextel PTT service at GTE (Verizon).
