Why is Nextel the only national carrier to not have a national coverage map on their webpage?

I was looking through all the carriers websites today and noticed that
Nextel was the only one to not show a national map of coverage.

Their map has a bunch of city names, but other than going in to check
each area specifically, I could find no national map showing where they
cover and where they don't cover. I was hoping to compare it to the
other carrier's maps that I found online. Locally around here,
Balt/Wash DC, my current carrier, Verizon Wireless, certainly seems to
have far superior coverage to most carriers, particularly Nextel... but
I wanted to see what the rest of the country looked like.

Some of you may respond, "because Nextel has such awful coverage"... so
on and so on... "and some may say, its so damn good, who needs a map..."

But, why isn't there one? If anyone has a national map of their
coverage, could you please post it in a response to this message?

Are you too stupid to enter in your zip code and see DETAILED
coverage? Nextel provides a fairly accurate coverage map. Look at
the Verizon (or ATT or Sprint or...) map and you have no idea if it
will work anywhere because the maps are too general. But I guess you
were trying to make a point, huh? Pretty lame point. Made you look
pretty stupid, but what the heck.

I see what you mean. i used to have a map that showed their areas better,
but it was some time ago.
Nextel does have many limits in their areas. I would suggest you check
areas that you may travel in to compare. If you want the 2-way feature of
Nextel, it works wherever they have service, unlike Verizon currrently. You
will not roam with Nextel, no billing surprises. Their old statement was
that they were in areas that 80% of people live and work. Thus, they are in
more populated areas and travel routes. If however, you need broad
coverage, another carrier may work better for you. I have heard that Nextel
is working on expanding, but no details.

I see what you mean. i used to have a map that showed their areas better,
but it was some time ago.
Nextel does have many limits in their areas. I would suggest you check

providers national maps aren't accurate...and if you think about, even
their local maps aren't. Verizon's local Michigan coverage map shows
all the counties it covers, but it shows coverage by county lines per
the FCC divide-up, it doesn't show real coverage. For example,
Columbiaville, MI is a black hole for cellular service for every
provider but Nextel, yet according to Verizon's supposed map they have
flawless coverage.

So even though it's a little more work to see the individual areas
with Nextel's map, just bear in mind that theirs is at least honest,
based on the placement of cell sites as opposed to most providers'
"FCC Coverage territory maps" Guess it just depends on your angle,
heh.

yeah, just click on the city and it brings up a highly detailed coverage
map. There may be coverage in the 'tan' areas, but it is not guaranteed
service like in the 'purple' areas.
