Honestly, is it just me or does verizon suck..not the service or reception.
But the errors the idiots that work there make. There has been several
times when i have went to north florida <im in south florida> and got
SLAMMED with roaming fees. After an hour of argueing with the idiot
at Verizon, we come to the "agreement" that i would just get ****ed out
of the money because they are "sorry if i thought it was all of florida".
Next time I'm in Palm beach county NOT 7 miles away from my house.
Here comes the roaming fees again.. Now I call back MAD AS ****.
Luckily that time they gave me a credit for the right amount. Next
problem is they tacked on a text messaging option. At the time i had
the nokia **** phone that COULDN'T even SEND messages.
I'm to frustrated to type any more.
IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A CELL PHONE WITH VERIZON, PLEASE
DONT. If the deals worked it would be great. But even at the VERIZON
stores the people working there are ****TY.
Please DON'T make the mistake i made.

Don't you know that the people that work for the service companies are the
ones that know the least about their services they sell and provide? Welcome
to America, where no quality control exists anymore or accountability.

Let me guess. America's Choice Plan, and you did not watch your roaming
indicator?

Re: is it just me or does verizon suck ...not the service or reception.
I've asked this question a few times before & have never gotten an answer,
but can the roaming feature be locked out so the phone will not work in
areas that I'll be charged extra? I don't mind paying for the roaming fees
if it's really an important call. Is it difficult to see the roaming
indicator when your talking & it could switch modes without noticing? Does
anyone know in how many areas of Florida I could run across the roaming
areas? The maps that Verizon shows you are not all that explicit.

Phones have the option to set them to No Roaming or Home Only. Only problem
with doing that is that Extended Network areas where you aren't charged for
roaming are seen by the phone as a type of roaming. So setting your phone
on one of those settings will eliminate all of those areas also. Also, if
you are on a call in a covered area, the call does not hand off to another
system like that and start charging you roaming.

Some time around 12 Dec 2003 18:09:22 -0800 (give or take a month), someone
called [email protected] (Bungee) rambled on about:

I live in Broward Co and see my roaming indicator a lot. Feh.

Thanks for the reply. (now it makes sense) -but if the system doesn't hand
off to an area that charged for roaming, what happens? Is the call
disconnected & you have to reconnect - or is there no charge? (doubtful).

It will just not hand you off from an network that is included to a roaming
network, the call will drop first, then you will have to call whoever yout
talking to back, or they can call you back.

The call is disconnected. Generally the network you're about to roam on
doesn't get any advance warning that you're going to roam, so it's not
going to be able to set up a call and negotiate a handoff with the home
network to keep your call going. I've heard such a setup is possible,
but generally carriers find it not worth the cost involved.

Re: is it just me or does verizon suck ...not the service or reception.
First of all, CALM DOWN.....it's only a cellular phone. To date YOU
still control the checkbook, although I think that may be temporary
for all of us.....(c;
Do what I do, as YOU are in control of the money supply, here. When
you get screwed up roaming charges in your bill, simply include a
short message pointing out their error charging you for service in the
SHADED AREA on the rate map. (Include the rate map and mark it so
even those idiots can see that you were SUPPOSED to have coverage
because the damned map shows the area is all shaded in on your plan.
INFORM "them", in your neatly-printed, calmly worded,
I'm-in-control-here, message, that you refuse to pay roaming charges
where you sold service AND you have included your check for services
rendered, minus the erroneous charges of course, with this message and
payment stub. Mark on the stub the amount you are paying in the
squares provide.
No need to get all flustered. Life's too short to get pissed
off.......
Sure hope you weren't stupid enough to give these people access to
your credit card number or, worse-yet, automatic pay from your bank
account!.....
Use their Big Lie Rate Map against them.......It works....(c; You
might even find it fun....I do.

And if it hadn't already been mentioned, make sure you keep your PRL
up-to-date by dialing *228 and pressing the number 2 when the announcement
begins. Wait until you hear programming is complete prior to hanging-up.
Afterwards, your phone will reset itself.

Most phones can be set not to roam, but that means you won't make a call
anywhere other than your home area (because technically, when you're on a
verizon system other than your own, you *are* still roaming).

I'm wondering, maybe it has something to do with your attitude. Calling
people idiots, doesn't usually bring out the best in them. I've had Verizon
for quite a while now, with no problem.

Hm, you never answered the question about whether you were paying attention
to what your phone said. Would you like to answer that? Because, y'see, it
will say if you're roaming or not.

Not happy being a Sprint apologist, not you're a Verizon apologist too;
and picking on posters over here? Incredible.
