    Hello all!

I have a Nokia 9290 Communicator that I'd like to sell. I'm not sure what the term
"unlocked" means, but I'm assuming that it means to wipe the current owner information and
make it available to someone else.

How would I go about doing this to my phone?

    Regards,

    John Peterson

No its not it means to unlock the phone so that it will work on any network that the phones bands suport.

    Ah, gotcha -- thanks Paulo!

So, I guess that still begs the question: how do I "purge" the phone of any and all of my
"personal" information? There's a Contact for me in the phone (the very first entry) that
doesn't allow me to delete/edit it. Might you know anything about that? Is there some
way to "reset" the phone so that it defaults to the factory settings (without removing the
    applications)?

    Many thanks!

Remove battery and then replace and open cover, as soon as the start up
screen comes up, press Shift and Ctrl, then F (hols down all three), it
should then ask if you want to format, you do.

    Hello John!

That seemed to do the trick! Oddly, I was hitting Ctrl-Shift-F to no avail, until I
re-read your message. It seems like it was sensitive to being depressed in the exact
    Shift-Ctrl-F order. :-)

You saved me a *ton* of time in trying to figure this out -- I was starting to manually
delete stuff, and when it came to the calendar stuff (I had synchronized with Outlook) it
was kind of daunting how much stuff was in there...

    Thanks again!

One other thing -- this seems to have potentially removed some of the applications. Is
that possible? That is, when I go to the Office section, I no longer seem to have
anything in there (before I had like a word-processing and spreadsheet application icon).
Same for the Desktop (which I think was nothing more than shortcuts to other areas and a
    fancy bitmap background).

    Thoughts?

Yes, it formats everything not in the phones firmware, so you will have to
reinstall whatever you want or leave it to the new owner.

Okay -- hopefully that's on the CD-ROM. And perhaps I'll leave that as an exercise for
    the new owner... ;-)

    Thanks again for your help!
